Entries for the 2019 Norma K Hemming Award, covering eligible work from 2018, closed on Thursday 31 January, 2019. It is with great pleasure we announce the following details about the entries.
In the short form category (work up to 17,500 words), 31 eligible entries were received.
In the long form category, 22 eligible entries were received, which included anthologies, novellas, stage plays and novel length works.
Entries were received from a variety of sources, including major publishers, small presses, and self-published authors.
The jurors are now examining the entries against the Norma K Hemming Award criteria of excellence in the exploration of themes of race, gender, sexuality, class or disability in a published speculative fiction work.
It is anticipated that shortlists will be released by the end of April, with the Award presentation to be held at the Continuum science fiction convention and Natcon in Melbourne over the June long weekend (7-10 June, 2019).
